One of the best festivals I have witnessed, ever. This colorful event takes place every year in Medellin and starts with intense days of preparation up in the hills, at the historic flower fincas. It is steeped in tradition and feirce family competition – each of these silleteros walks miles with the heavy artwork on their back vying for prizes. The silleteros come in various shapes and sizes, all with very strict judging criteria, merging symbolism from old flower farmer tradition and the practice during slavery of carrying people in chairs on their backs up the steep hills of Medellin. We fell in love with the colors, the deep pride, and the beauty in it all! Plus we had Pablo visiting which was a treat itself!
