San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

We just got back from our long weekend in San Pedro de Atacama celebrating Eli’s birth!  The Atacama desert in Northern Chile is the driest desert in the world and boasts some truly amazing landscapes.  Between wild rock formations, expansive salt flats, beautiful lagoons and a quaint travelers’ town, I could understand why many of the people who live there came once for a visit and “couldn’t leave.”  It’s quiet and peaceful and an adventurer’s paradise.  Most of all, Eli and I loved the crystal clear night sky.  It’s quite a change from Santiago and we were able to see some amazing constellations, star clusters and planets (hellllo Saturn!) from the powerful telescopes they have set up out there.  Quite the trip!
